Sure it is okay to feel validated in whatever you do, but when your actions are not validated do think you’ve failed? Or feel like you are not good enough? Does your day become a bad one because of not being validated? Are you living for you or for others?
Here are five clues to tell you live for others and not for yourself:
- You tend to worry about what others think
- You are motivated into doing things for the praise of it
- When asked what is your opinion on anything you have a hard time thinking of one
- You hate the idea of being alone
- Most of your day incorporates pleasing others including your boss, your family, friends etc.
If I were to ask you what would you like to do for fun today? Could you easily tell me what that would be? Or would you really have to think real hard about it? Or worse you cannot think of anything. Yes, sometimes our responsibilities define us. We get so used to doing what is asked of us and what is wanted, but we forget to do what is needed and that is living for you. You get so busy working, running from one place to the next, managing money, children, life. You have become so accustomed to pleasing everyone that you are just existing. You are not living. You make everyone happy, but you are not happy, you are miserable and keep wondering why.
Live for yourself by:
- Self-care- exercise, eat right, get plenty rest
- Take time out for you- meditate, relax, read a book, watch TV
- Say no from time-to-time even if you can accommodate a request
- Do what you want, stop caring so much about what others think, what do you think?
- Celebrate you, don’t wait for others to do so.
When you live for yourself, it is much easier to do for others. If you do not care for yourself, others will not care for you the way you want. Be yourself, live for you, be your own biggest cheerleader. Eventually others will cheer for you and you won’t have to work so hard to get it.
