Bringing Life Back After Baby: Postpartum Depression
Having a baby is a wonderful joy in every woman’s life. Babies bring so much happiness and love to everyone that is around. But, sometimes the period after having a baby can make a woman go through countless emotions. Also, after premature babies even more emotions and timing to adjust may happen. Postpartum Depression usually starts within a few weeks after delivery and can last several months afterwards. Postpartum usually consist of mood swings, difficulty bonding, guilt, and trouble making decisions.
There are many ways for women to learn to cope with postpartum depression. Coping with Postpartum can help women feel better about themselves, better about life, and better about their loving little ones. I have taken the time to provide 4 ways of coping with Postpartum Depression.
Have Time for Yourself to Rest
Taking time for yourself can help decrease stress and give you time to think about what needs to be done or time to not thing at all. Let someone else do all the thinking while you take time to gather your thoughts, you will still be a great mother. This time can also be set aside on a daily or weekly basis depending on how you feel and adjust.
Not only should you take time for yourself, but it will also be necessary to take everything slow. Do not feel that everything needs to be done or that it all needs to be in order. Chasing your life should be decreased after having a baby. Being able to set things in a prioritized order will help ease the stress to create room to rest easy.
Get Excellent Exercise
Exercising is always a great choice to build energy and just a way to get fresh air. When you exercise it also tends to release stress and decrease illnesses in many people. Exercising does not mean that you work out for 30min or an hour. After having a baby many women are limited to the amount of time that they can move. Working out for only 10-15 min a day can still help bring much positive energy. Walking has been shown to ease depression.
Balance Your Healthy Body
Tracking your meals and making sure that they are healthy can be better for the body. Food makes the body happy, and when the body is happy the body is less depressed. Planning meals ahead of time are helpful due to the inconsistency a baby brings in the first few months. When grabbing food on the go while taking care of a baby think of options such as apple slices and carrots instead of chips and cookies.
Also, since you are not pregnant anymore seafood can be very healthy and resourceful. Omega-3 fatty acids are great for women after pregnancy because it can reduce levels of depression. Even if you cannot eat seafood there are supplements that can assist in dietary.
Talk it Out
Trying to be great is not always the greatest thing to do after having a baby. Learning to maintain a new lifestyle with a baby can be stressful which is why it is always best to talk to someone about your problems. Talking about your feelings with someone can help shift a mood quickly from negative to positive. Talking to a friend can bring peace for many people but sometimes talking to a counselor can bring peace along with stability. Postpartum Depression is real and does not just disappear with a magic pill. Along with proper knowledge and care you will start feeling better about life as it is now.
