I know what you’re thinking, the last think you want to “save a buck on” is counseling. Mental health is serious, you don’t want someone digging around in there messing things up. When you think “low-cost” you usually don’t think mental health, therapy, or counseling. You probably think of Walmart, or some off brand product. But, what do we know about that off brand product? Sometimes, the fact is, it is the same exact product, only packaged differently and sold for a slightly lower cost. We sometimes know this as “store brand” and almost every business does it, and they usually make a killing. The notion of “paying for the name” is real, people sometimes reach for the “name brand” because they know what they are getting, and they are willing to pay the extra for it. However, as mentioned before, what is stopping you from reaching for the store brand product? You think it won’t be as good? You think maybe there is a reason it is cheaper than its competitors? Do you feel less than because you would like to save a few dollars and not overpay for something that is likely the same product, only packaged a little differently? To you I would say, do what feels right to you! There is a reason we have choices in life, in grocery stores, and what/where to spend our money. That’s just it, its our money, so we can do what we want with it.
So, what does this all have to do with low cost counseling? Basically its the same concept as store brand and name brand. If you’re willing (and able) to pay the extra cost for a service that is backed by years of experience, certifications, and licenses, invest in yourself and your mental health! If you are willing to pay for the same service at a slightly lower rate that’s simply missing a few ingredients, check out a local low cost counseling clinic near you! The interns which work in the low cost counseling clinic are highly trained, highly qualified counselors in their last years of school. You’re probably wondering, “How do they know what they’re doing? They’re still in school!”. These interns are all masters level learners, meaning they are gaining their masters degree and are only a short time away from gaining their licenses. Also, they also have years of experience already under their belt from working after they received their bachelor’s degree, and continuously pursuing further education for many years. You would be surprised at how knowledgeable and helpful these interns can be regarding your treatment. I would even go as far as saying you probably wouldn’t know the difference between an intern and a licensed professional unless someone told you. Doctors use this same concept with “residents”, you often wouldn’t know or can tell the difference in a resident or a “real doctor” they all practice medicine and can help you! Usually, mental health treatments for depression, anxiety, and other common disorders take several sessions spanning over an extensive period of time, this can add up rather quickly when paying a high rate per session. This is when you might consider a low cost therapy clinic in your area. A simple google search like “low cost therapy clinics in Fayetteville, Ga” could work. Happy mental health hunting!
