We’re a little over a week into the new year, and everywhere we turn, there are “new year, new me” or “new year, same me” posts and ads. Maybe you’re feeling the pull to leave behind the events and challenges that shaped you in the past. Perhaps you’re hoping for a fresh start, yearning for a “new” you. Or maybe you like who you are, or you’ve grown content with the idea of staying the same.
But as a mindset shift expert, I want to challenge you to embrace a different perspective: New Year, Better Me.
The Path to a Better You
This mindset isn’t about erasing your past or starting from scratch. It’s about growth, not replacement. Strive to be better than you were yesterday, a week ago, or a month ago. Every step forward counts. As Rosabeth Moss Kanter wisely said, “A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.”
Each year, I embrace this philosophy through an intentional ritual: creating vision boards. Not one, but two—one for myself and another with my husband. Why two? Because while our individual goals matter, our shared vision as a couple holds equal importance. Let me explain.
Why I Create a Personal Vision Board
- Clarity on My Goals: Taking the time to visualize my aspirations helps me focus on what truly matters. It’s an act of self-reflection that aligns me with my purpose.
- Motivation Through Visualization: Seeing my goals displayed in a tangible way fuels my determination. It’s a daily reminder of the dreams I’m working toward.
- Accountability: My personal vision board serves as a roadmap. Whenever I feel stuck or distracted, it brings me back to my “why.”
Why We Create a Couples Vision Board
- Shared Goals Foster Unity: By discussing our dreams and creating a shared vision, we strengthen our connection and align our priorities.
- Teamwork Makes the Dream Work: A couples vision board keeps us accountable to one another. It’s a reminder that we’re in this together.
- Celebrating Milestones Together: Visualizing our shared goals lets us celebrate progress as a team, making every success that much sweeter.
Write the Vision, Make It Plain
Habakkuk’s words remind us of the power in writing and visualizing our dreams. A vision board isn’t just a collage of pretty pictures; it’s a declaration of what you’re striving for, a tangible manifestation of your hopes and ambitions. It’s a promise to yourself to keep moving forward.
Join the Vision Board Movement
If this resonates with you, I invite you to attend one of my upcoming Vision Board Parties:
January 11th – Individual Vision Board Party: Perfect for setting your personal goals and creating a roadmap for 2025.
February 8th – #CoupleGoals Vision Board Party: A special event designed for couples to create a shared vision for their relationship and future together.
Each event includes guided exercises, materials, and a space for inspiration and connection. Let’s make this a year of growth, together. Both are held in the Conference Room of Douté Counseling Services at 500 W. Lanier Ave Suite 508, Fayetteville GA starting at 2pm.
Your Next Step
Change starts with intention. As you think about your goals for this year, remember: you don’t have to leave behind who you are. Instead, embrace who you can become. Growth is a journey, not a destination. This year, commit to being better than you were yesterday.
So, what’s on your vision board? Let’s create it together.
