How do I approach Individual Therapy?
As a family therapist, my training has taught me that problems rarely develop in a vacuum…which simply means we take a systems approach to your concerns. What is a systems approach? It’s a practice of looking at your attachment surrounding to figure out how did you get here. That could include persons such as: Your parents, siblings, friends, co-workers, employer, intimate partner, culture, even historical events of the world to figure out how to navigate your struggles.
What makes Individual Therapy work?
Commitment. You have to be ready to do the work. Emotions can be painful…as well as the truth. If you’re ready to explore your own vulnerability in order to convert them to strengths then individual therapy may be a good choice for you. If your’e not ready, no worries. A trained therapist will know when to slow down to allow you time to process new information about yourself.
