Do you struggle with perfectionist tendencies?
Are you looking for a more mindful way to interact with the world?
Are you trying to love yourself for who you truly are, faults and all?
If you answered yes to any of those questions, living the Wabi Sabi life might be just the indulgence in self-care you need.
Simply, Wabi Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic rooted in finding beauty and purpose in imperfection. Perhaps the issue at hand is already flawed, or maybe it is something that becomes flawed over time. The point is, just because something (person/place/thing/idea) develops ‘cracks’ does not mean that it no longer has value. This is illustrated in Zen Buddhism with the creation of pottery. Even cracked pottery is kept. Not only is it kept, it is made more valuable by melting gold to fill in the broken areas.
The ‘cracks” each one of us has suffered through trauma and pain are exactly what make us more valuable and resilient. If we can shift of cognitions to seeing the beauty and lessons we learned from hardships we can find new worth, motivation, and meaning within ourselves.
